Cuba

“Oh I love Cuba, through and through having been brought up in communism this was like traveling back in time with palm trees as a bonus. The spirit of the people their humbleness and generosity was astounding”. – Misha

Misha Milovanovich is another example of a women that Michelle Obama was talking about at SXSW, ‘Let Girls Learn’. Misha acted on her passion having grown up in Belgrade, modeling and now art. Misha has her mentor’s, Martin Kippenberger, Roy Lichteinstein and Phillip Guston, as well as contemporary artists such as Gilbert and George, Keith Tyson, Rob Pruitt and Jim Lambie.

As Cuba comes under the spotlight and President Obama posters go up on walls once reserved only for Che Guevara, Misha not only shared with me her love for Cuba, her two most favorite places being Havana, and Trinidad where she learned to Salsa, as well as guided me to artists to look out for in Cuba.

President Obama is not the only one coming to Cuba this upcoming week, so is Leonardo DiCaprio and now the (six degrees of separation), Misha’s new painting are on exhibit around the corner from DiCaprio’s home in New York City. Misha’s new body of work entitled ‘SPLISH SPLASH SPLOSH’ is showing at the Magen H Gallery in NYC.

It’s one of a series that looks at the intersection of cultural detritus, pornographic calligraphy and a writhing mass of biological forms in playful union.

Titled: “SPLOSH”, Painting 3, 2016 Acrylic, oil pastel, pen, ink, enamel and cellulose paint. 122 cm x 96 cmat .

Misha has also in the past extended her art on silk scarves, she is most certainly an artist you will want to follow on her social media such as Twitter and keep up with her exiting new projects. Who known maybe even in Cuba.
